If you are a professional rider and want to pass your talent on to some newcomer, then you are thinking a good thing. You must share your passion with someone and encourage him/her to learn all the techniques that you have acquired over a long time. I remember, when I first taught a novice, how to ride a motorcycle…
Honestly, that was a great time when I shared my vast knowledge of motorcycling with another person and taught him not to do all the bad habits that I once did, which I learned from. In fact, that’s the last thing you want to do while teaching a novice to ride before he buy some of the A2 licence bikes.
So, if you are planning to teach someone new to ride, then these tips will help you to understand what to teach and what not.
Communication
Communication is the first step.
I think communication is the most important thing in teaching riding to a novice or in any other activity you do. If you are planning to communicate with a Bluetooth system, then try to give minimum instructions. You don’t want them to be distracted by shouting or sudden lessons.
Let them focus on motorcycle riding only. Limit your instructions and repeat the same things over and over for a while. It may seem boring but it’s the right thing to do. A mind can only take a limited amount of information at a time.

Lead the Way
Some people grasp things quickly when they see others doing it. So, you lead the way in teaching them. They will learn a lot quicker when they see you riding in front of them.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”
When a novice sees the instructor leading the way, he/she will understand when to brake, where to look, and when to switch on the indicators, etc.
Sometimes, you will need them to lead so you can observe their riding actions, like where they will go, where they will turn, and when they use the brakes or indicators, etc.
So, follow them and see how they react when you are following them.
Regroup & Talk
Now, it is time to stop and go over what they have accomplished so far. It’s a good opportunity to discuss the rights and wrongs. But, ensure that you recognize what they did right in their ride and praise them for doing so. Don’t dwell on what they did wrong and keep encouraging them to be positive.
This regrouping discussion will also give them an opportunity to ask questions that they had in their mind while riding.
I understand your passion for motorcycle riding but you don’t need to take them on long rides over challenging roads. Instead, try short, fun rides with frequent stops.
Celebrate and Reward
You must reward their skills at the end of the week. Treat them as a friend as well and take them on a weekend trip away.
Appreciation encourages people to learn, as well as showing an interest in what they do. It motivates them.
Be patient. It’s not like they will fail their license over it. Give them time to learn and be patient as you make them ready to join you slowly.
Suggest that they go at their own pace but don’t let them out of your sight.
I am sure they will learn quickly and make you proud.
I hope these tips will help you to teach a novice how to ride a motorcycle and let you fulfill your dream of teaching motorcycle riding and sharing your skills with someone else.
