Shell Design & Protection
The Sena Cavalry Bluetooth half helmet is DOT certified and comes in multiple different shell sizes. There are only two color versions available for sale, gloss black and matte black. The shape of the helmet is intermediate oval and it won’t fit very well for round or narrow head shapes, so you should keep that in mind.
The outer shell of the Sena Cavalry helmet is made from a premium fiberglass composite material that is very light in weight, yet extremely durable. The helmet weighs only 2,3 lbs and it is one of the lightest Bluetooth helmets out there. The shell of the helmet has an aerodynamic design and you can mount a removable peak visor on top of it.
Face Shield & Visor
The peak visor that comes with the Sena Cavalry helmet is low profile and it has aerodynamic properties. It can be simply mounted onto the frontal part of the shell using a couple of screws. Thanks to its shape, it also helps with the wind reduction a little a bit as it will cover the microphone of the Bluetooth device.
Unfortunately, the Sena Cavalry motorcycle helmet doesn’t have any drop down sun visor or face shield. Therefore, you will have to use some kind of goggles or sunglasses with the helmet.
Comfort & Airflow
Inside the helmet, you will find an inner lining that is comfortable to the touch and it can be fully removed for washing. Under the liner, you will see a flat EPS padding without any cutouts for ventilation. Additional ventilation isn’t really needed in this helmet thanks to it’s open-face characteristics.
Noise Reduction
The Sena Cavalry helmet has an interesting feature that you will notice in the speaker area. It has a couple of removable plastic ear piece inserts that are designed to reduce the wind noise even further and bounce the sound coming from the speakers back into the ears. At lower speeds, you should be able to use the Bluetooth device even without the inserts.
Other than that, the Sena Cavalry half helmet also offers another type of inserts. These are much larger inserts that go around the face and they can be inserted in-between the side straps. They are supposed to cover your ears completely and to block most of the wind noise and motorcycle engine sounds at higher speeds. All of these extra accessories actually come in the box included with the helmet itself, which is a big plus!
Sena 10R Bluetooth Device
As mentioned before, the helmet comes with a preinstalled Bluetooth headset that’s included in the price. But, it is not just some common cheap type of headset. Sena actually equipped the Cavalry helmet with one of their best selling devices of all times, the legendary Sena 10R unit. It is a very popular Bluetooth device among bikers due to its low weight, simplicity, and reliability.
Basic Features
The device features an extremely low profile design and it is only about a half inch tall. Therefore, you won’t even notice there is any intercom device installed on the helmet. It features Bluetooth 4.1 and it also has a built-in FM radio with RDS AF (Radio Data System Alternate Frequencies). The Sena 10R unit is also known for its long range of signal (about half a mile or 900 m) and the possibility to connect a group of up to 4 different persons. On top of that, you can pair the helmet with your smart phone for the ability to listen to 10+ hours of music and it even has an iPhone and Android app available for download.
Mounting & Installation
The Bluetooth device is mounted directly onto the shell and all the wiring is hidden inside the helmet. There is a noise cancelling mic installed directly into the upper part of the eye-port area and a couple of speakers hidden in the interior liner. This ensures a great riding experience without any cables pushing your head or coming out of the helmet.
Voice & Sound Quality
The voice quality is pretty impressive considering it is an open-face helmet. You would expect that it will be impossible to use any kind of Bluetooth device with such helmet at higher speeds, but the exact opposite is true. The sound is almost clear when the wind conditions are good and you can be heard without any problems at the speeds of up to 50 mph.

Value |
The Sena Cavalry Bluetooth half helmet can definitely be a great choice for those who would like to buy a new half-face helmet and don’t own any Bluetooth device. You can actually save a considerable amount of money if you end up buying this Bluetooth helmet with the Sena 10R device included, instead of buying both pieces of gear separately. This fact makes the Sena Cavalry helmet a great value for the money, when we consider the above average comfort and the premium materials used in the outer shell and in the inner lining of the helmet. The call quality is also very good for a half-face helmet, just don’t expect to be it on par with any full-face helmet.
All in all, this helmet is without a doubt worth a buy. I can say that the Sena Cavalry is one of the top Bluetooth helmets on today’s market and you won’t find a better half-face motorcycle helmet with an integrated Bluetooth communication device.
