HJC IS-17 Motorcycle Helmet Review
Safety Level & Shell Design
First of all, the surprising factor in HJC’s IS-17 helmet is its weight, which is not more than 3lbs in the XL size with an internal sun visor. If you compare it with other helmets then it will overshadow them because of its light weight.
The “Neutral” shape has made it suitable for an overall fit to most head shapes. In doing so, it provides aerodynamics and comfort to the rider that previously, one would never get in this range of helmets. Thus, it is one excellent helmet in the context of weight and is quite reasonably balanced.
It is the definition of a lightweight, strongly created shell helmet built to provide safety in the worst circumstances.
The very best of market graphics and design are not what you will be getting in HJC’s IS-17 helmet. Although, all HJCs helmets are quite stylish with value-added features to keep you safe on the road.
Speaking of features, HJC’s IS-17 has an advanced polycarbonate shell composition designed with the use of CAD technology. It has been through an extremely rigorous procedure of testing the strength and aerodynamics of this helmet and the tests have been very successful.
The IS-17 helmet is certified by not one but two safety standards – Snell M2010 & DOT.
Inside this polycarbonate shell, it has a multi-density EPS liner, which, by the way, is an impact-absorbing layer with varying densities of foam in order to reduce the injuries in case of any major or minor motorcycle accident.
Face Shield & Visor
As we were talking about summer riding, if you ever feel like you need sunglasses while riding then don’t worry! Because HJC has taken care of it.
You want to know how?
Well, HJC’s IS 17 motorcycle helmet has a centrally mounted slide on the top to keep harmful UV rays at bay. Also, it is equipped with plenty of other features, such as the RapidFire 2 shield replacement system for easy removal and insertion of the shield. This means, in case of an accident, you can quickly remove the shield from your head without any extra tools.
The visibility is outstanding in this helmet, which makes it a suitable choice to ride even at night. The HJC IS-17 is enabled with a 3D design optically superior anti-scratch pin-lock face shield, which provides 95 percent UV protection and as the name implies, has an anti-scratch coating. Moreover, it has an anti-fog feature for riding in the winter season.
However, you will be disappointed to know that the Pin-lock EVO anti-fog resistant lens is sold separately.
If you think that we are done talking about the face shield and visor, then you are so wrong. Because there are plenty of other advanced features, which we haven’t discussed yet.
The next big thing HJC equipped the IS-17 with is, “One-touch integrated smoke-tinted sun-shield (HJ-V7),” which has a centrally mounted slide on top of the helmet that you can use to lower the tinted visor to keep harmful rays out. You can even use this slide with gloves on.
So, as we said, you won’t need sunglasses with the HJC IS-17 motorcycle helmet except for your power glasses.
Ventilation System
The efficiency of the ventilation system is quite debatable, actually.
But, don’t worry!
This is why we are here to provide expert advice and insights.
The HJC IS-17 helmet has top vents and chin vents for ventilation. First, let’s talk about the chin vents. If you are one of those people who can’t compromise safety with style then it is definitely for you. Because most cruiser riders and summer riders don’t consider full-face helmets since it is too difficult to get proper air flowing through it. But, not in this case.
HJC’s IS 17 chin vents are made exactly for this kind of situation. The chin vent allows the air to pass through the vent holes inside the helmet towards the top of the helmet around your face. The slider is quite reliable to channel the airflow intake even while wearing motorcycle gloves.
However, the top vents are not as good as we would like to see. In fact, the top vents are quite disappointing when it comes to getting continuous airflow inside the helmet.
The top vents of the HJC IS-17 have an advanced channeling ventilation system (AC-S), which allows the full front-to-back airflow system that helps in getting cool air inside the helmet’s top area to draw humidity and heat from the helmet through the rear exhaust ports. But, the major issue seen in the IS-17 is that “the top vents do not properly line up with the EPS liner.” The result, no matter how much air passes through the top vents, some of it blocked by the EPS liner.
So, as AC-S is recognized for full front-to-back airflow, the HJC IS 17 did not offer what we expected it to.
Thus, the IS 17 certainly has the impact absorption but at the cost of irregular airflow in the top area of the helmet.
Interior Liner & Comfort Level
Comfort is the one thing that we all require in any property. The same goes for a motorcycle helmet. So, after reviewing the shell design, ventilation, and visibility, what every rider needs to know is, “how comfortable is this helmet?”
Indeed! We couldn’t agree more ad you couldn’t be more right.
There is no point in all that safety and ventilation if the helmet is not comfortable to wear while going on long rides. Right?
This is why HJC made sure you won’t just turn down a helmet because it is not comfortable. Thus, HJC used the SuperCool Interior feature in the IS-17 helmet, which is an antibacterial and moisture-wicking fabric that dissipates sweat two times faster than any ordinary fabric.
And like other HJC helmets, cheek pads are removable, washable, and interchangeable in all sizes.
More importantly, the cheek pads are custom-fit, which will allow you to travel comfortably for long durations.
Noise Levels
You won’t believe it but the HJC IS-17 helmet is a relatively quiet helmet. Quieter than the average helmets available on the market. You may see signs of some noises from the sides but only when your helmet doesn’t fit you well.
In fact, there are multiple reasons for a helmet to be noisy like size, fit, motorcycle type, speed, and riding gear too.
So, another suggestion, don’t forget to wear the right motorcycle riding gear while riding a motorcycle.
Noise won’t be an issue with the HJC IS-17 motorcycle helmet because the EPS liner has already blocked some holes, which not only blocks the airflow but some noise as well.

Thanks for your posting. One other thing is the fact that individual American states have their own laws in which affect house owners, which makes it extremely tough for the Congress to come up with a whole new set of guidelines concerning property foreclosure on people. The problem is that a state has own regulations which may work in a damaging manner when it comes to foreclosure policies.
