When it was first introduced on the market, I was really excited about the Shoei X-14 helmet. As you know it has been worn by one of the fastest riders on the planet, Marc Marquez.
Besides, it was also very interesting to see how different this X-14 is from Shoei’s RF-1200 and other helmets. It is not like me to be so centered towards a single helmet but when I first saw the Shoei X-14 motorcycle helmet, I learned how the company had just elevated the benchmark. Until now the Shoei RF-1200 motorcycle helmet was always the top helmet on the list of top-of-the-line helmets but when I first held the X-14 helmet I saw something different – a build quality that produces a robust feel.
You know what?
It is extremely stable at elevated speeds. I’m probably stating the obvious, but if a helmet is built for the tracks; it is common to see stability at high speeds. But, the thing with the Shoei X-14 helmet is that it is stable, whether you’re on a track or a street and your head will automatically be directed forward irrespective of your riding position.
Also, it is lighter than the RF-1200 helmet. It is said that the helmet is specifically designed for Moto-GP and track racing but even if you’re a street motorcyclist I would say, “You should definitely check out the Shoei X-14 motorcycle helmet.”
X-14 is a top-of-the-line MotoGP racing helmet manufactured and designed by Shoei. Because, when you need to dominate on MotoGP’s racing circuits and every millisecond counts, then you need a racing helmet that provides incredible performance and shows you every single detail on the track.
The X-14 Full-face helmet has been designed to provide speed, precision, and style for all-out racers of the world. That’s why it has been tested on the track by the world champions like Marc Marquez, who is considered as the fastest rider on the planet.
But, here’s another thing, Shoei’s X-14 helmet is still being worn by world-class racers but it doesn’t mean that it is only a racer’s helmet. In fact, the Shoei X-14 is also suitable for street motorcyclists as much as for MotoGP racers. If you want to find out, then check out the latest Shoei X-14 Helmet Review in detail.

Shell Design & Aerodynamic Stability
First, let’s talk about aerodynamics. The X-14 helmet is wind-tunnel tested for aerodynamic stability and ventilation performance. Shoei’s X-14 features an all-new shell shape along with a completely redesigned, patent-pending rear stabilizer that is designed to enhance high-speed stability while reducing negative force and drag on the rider. These standard rear flaps can be replaced with optional narrow flaps depending on the rider’s preference and track demands. A removable lower air spoiler can be affixed to the chin bar to improve aerodynamic stabilization. This lower air spoiler will reduce drag and buffeting.
Another improvement to the interior of the helmet is the Dual-Layer/Multi-Density EPS Liner that provides enhanced impact absorption by using varying densities of foam to reduce head injuries during a crash. This precise composition of multi-density EPS material provides a compact and lightweight design to the X-14 helmet. Moreover, the Shoei X-14 helmet comes with 4 shells and 5 EPS liner sizes that are all DOT and SNELL M2015 certified. This shell has proprietary technology that integrates an advanced six-ply matrix called AIM+. Shoei’s shell is ultra-lightweight yet has a strong shell structure. This technology combines interwoven layers of fiberglass with organic fibers and resin. Overall, the shell design and protection level in the X-14 helmet are outstanding. You will see this technology only in premium helmets.
Face Shield & Sun Visor
The Shoei X-14 comes equipped with a CWR-F Race Shield that provides riders with 99% protection from the sun’s UV rays. The Pinlock EVO fog-resistant system is very convenient and useful for winter days. It has many innovative designs and additions, such as new ribs on the top and bottom edge that help to improve rigidity and eliminates bending at high speeds. Moreover, the new, patent-pending Vortex Generators reduce airlifting. And last but not least, the QR-E base plate system allows for quick, tool-less shield removal and installation functionality.
Ventilation System & Airflow
Shoei did a lot of work in the ventilation system of the X-14 helmet. However, its predecessor, the X-12 didn’t have any decent ventilation. But, Shoei’s X-14 has 6 air intakes and 6 exhaust vents that are positioned and optimized for maximum airflow. Speaking of airflow, the Shoei X-14 has a large scoop-type top vent, which looks very simple but is also very effective. It is not only positioned to maximize air volume but the liner, EPS channels, and the exhaust vents are also designed for better performance. These vent direct the air over the rider’s head through the EPS liner.
On the other hand, the rear exhaust vents work really well to create negative pressure to pull the air through and draw hot air from the helmet. The result is the upper ventilation system of the X-14 is excellent. It also contains a brow vent, which is not as noticeable as the top vents and the chin vent but is still quite good, though. The chin vents are divided into two parts- Upper Half & Lower Half. The upper half has two “Speeds” and does the usual job of directing the air up along the top of the chin bar just like other motorcycle helmet chin vents. But the lower half directs the air alongside the chin bar where it is directed over small channels and a hole molded into the back of each cheek pad. The vent system and the cheek pads are designed to keep that part dry and cool for the rider and for delivering cool air to the rider’s facial area.
Interior & Comfort Level
The Shoei X-14 helmet features the latest 3D Max-Dry Custom Interior System, which is fully washable, removable, adjustable, and replaceable. This exclusive Max-Dry material is capable of absorbing and dissipating sweat twice as fast as ordinary nylon fabric. The entire interior is customizable, and the cheek or center pads can be changed to allow the rider to reposition the helmet by up to 4 degrees. So, if you are in a racing position or in a racing competition, then you can increase your upper field vision by adjusting the angle and position of the helmet as per your requirement.
On top of that, you will get the functionality of the E.Q.R.S (Emergency Quick Release System), which enables the removal of the cheek pads from an injured rider’s helmet in case of an emergency. So, what I think is that the Shoei X-14 has an amazing combination of the ventilation system and the interior that will keep the rider’s head and face areas cool and dry for a long period of time. After all, racing environments are very hot and fatiguing, which is why we need a ventilation system and a next-level interior. And the truth is, we have it.

The fact that you will be wearing the same helmet as the best of the best, Marc Marquez, provides significant value to the Shoei X-14 helmet. The X-14 is built and designed for speed, precision, and style. The helmet is extremely lightweight due to the AIM+ construction. The opening for X14 is relatively smaller. However, this can also have its perks. The smaller opening creates a closer fit around the rider’s neck, which reduces the wind buffeting under the chin.
The ventilation is a step up from Shoei’s other models. The helmet has six adjustable intakes as well as six open exhaust ports. The ride becomes even more comfortable with the venting corresponding to the gaps between the Dual-Layer Multi-Density EPS Liner. The helmet does everything it can to keep the rider’s head cool, as the upper venting creates a low-pressure situation, thanks to which, warm air is pulled towards and out of the exhaust vents. The Shoei X-14 was built for and consulted by some of the top racers in the world, mainly Marc Marquez and Bradley Smith, and that alone makes it a legitimate model.
