There comes a time in the life of every motorcyclist when he/she had lost confidence after the first crash.
So what, if you crashed your motorcycle in front of other people. We all make mistakes. There is nothing to be embarrassed about and most importantly, you don’t need to be afraid of riding again. You have been doing this for a long time, you can’t just quit, all because you fell off.
It is not right. You need to regain your self-confidence and get back on your wheels as soon as possible. That’s why we are here today, to help you to physically and mentally prepare for it.
As a professional rider, I know a few techniques that can help you to regain your old confidence and be ready to ride your motorcycle once again, after your first crash.
Check Your Riding Gear
Have you checked to see if you damaged anything in your first crash? A helmet, boots, or maybe your riding jacket. If you have the least bit of doubt that it might have been damaged, then change whatever was damaged in the crash. You don’t want to wear it again and go riding without complete protection. Plus, it will remind you of your first crash.
You can ignore jackets, boots, and gloves for a bit of time, but after a crash, your helmet is the one item of protective equipment that can no longer be used. So, don’t think about the money it will cost because if you don’t replace your helmet, you could pay with your life!
Don’t risk it.

Examine Your Motorcycle
The second thing you need to do is to check the condition of your motorcycle.
Was your bike damaged in your crash?
If yes, then, unlike riding gear, you don’t need to buy a new one. We know, how much a motorcycle cost. But you must take it to a repair shop and have the mechanic check for damaged parts and repair them as soon as possible. If you have suffered significant injuries, which impair your physical ability, then leave your cruiser or your sports bike for a while and buy a lightweight and inexpensive motorcycle to use as a substitute until you fully recover.
First Ride After a Crash
Now, it is time to ride for the first time after the crash. You may be nervous. But, don’t forget it happened in the past. To feel comfortable, plan a short ride with mild traffic and beautiful weather, which will give you a relaxing ride. Don’t go back to the previous crash site, it will only bring back bad memories.
Make sure you wear full protection. In that way, you will be sure no harm will come to you, as you are fully protected. Face your fear alone. Don’t have anyone tag along with you on your ride. Otherwise, a single misstep will be embarrassing for you and instead of regaining your confidence, you will lose what‘s left of it.
Basically, just take it easy. Relax! Feel the wind on your face, look at the beautiful scenery, and smell Mother Nature all around you.
That’s all.
Confront Your Demons
Face the truth. If you have suffered from several significant injuries, then a single ride will not be enough to regain your self-confidence. Just keep riding until you are fully recovered from both physically and mentally.
Once you are, then go to the same spot where you crashed your motorcycle. Whether it was in the rain, on the highway, or maybe in heavy traffic. You need to face your demons.
Confront them. That’s the only way to restore your confidence 100 percent and have the self-confidence to ride once again, no matter what.
